This blog is not a replacement for your dental provider, nor does it pretend to be giving medical advice, and it sure can’t magically keep your child’s teeth plaque free. Instead, its a place where real San Diego moms and dads who also happen to be connoisseurs in oral health share their experiences with fellow parents. Not only do we learn from our own children’s needs, but we meet and interact with dozens of parents each day. By listening and sharing, we learn and can pass on what we hope is useful and real-life answers to tackle this preventable yet undisputed number one chronic disease in San Diego children. Last but not least, people who deal with kids day in and day out usually have some funny stuff to share, so look around. You might like it here.

J. Shahangian, DDS, MS

I go by Dr J and consider myself a I’m-never-gonna-live-anywhere-else-again kind of San Diegan. That’s a byproduct of the 11 years I spent away from home while getting my pediatric dentistry specialty education.  If you’re reading this and are looking for my bio, the list of ridiculously competitive schools I’ve managed to get through, or the honors earned along the way, you might be disappointed. This blog is not about me. It’s much more about a real problem that affects so many parents and their children. Its about the number one chronic disease in US children, the reason for 750,000 missed school days last year, and a real problem parents and dentists alike are scuffling with; cavities in kids. Here, you might also come across other things am passionate about: parenthood, husbandhood, and being blessed enough to have a career where I can be around the never boring, amazingly spirited creature known as the human child.

To keep in touch with Dr. J, you can follow him on Twitter @SugarBugMeNot, check out his Blog posts, or find him on Facebook.
